Canadian Association of Burn Nurses

1986, a small group of dedicated burn nurses brought forward the idea to establish a national nursing organization. It was recognized that the care of burn patients is unique, and burn nurses across the country would benefit from sharing their knowledge and expertise with each other at biennial meetings. The first meeting was held in Toronto and The Canadian Association of Burn Nurses was established to promote the support of nurses and other care providers, enabling them to provide the best standard of care to burn survivors and their families.

Camp BUCKO

Camp BUCKO (BUrn Camp for Kids in Ontario) provides an opportunity for children recovering from burn injuries to meet other children who share similar feelings and experiences in a camp environment. Camp gives these children temporary freedom from the everyday frustrations of being burned, a chance to share their stories and to bond with each other. Most of all though camp is a place to have fun and learn new things. It is a benefit for children in these circumstances to attend a program such as this to build self-esteem to cope with life beyond their burn injury.

A report conducted by VanderMeulen,H., Pernica, J. M., Roy,M., & Kam, A. J., in Clinical Paediatrics. The authors findings of a retrospective chart review examining cases of pediatric NF treated at a pediatric tertiary care centre. They found large variability in the care of presenting symptomatology. The noted a lack of standardized approaches results in delays in management and suboptimal antibiotic choice.
